Notes from the President
I got an interesting e-mail after last week's meeting. Well, actually I got several of them. However, one of them actually related to our meeting and I am comfortable sharing its contents with you. Generally, it was one member's observation on our Spaghetti Supper prize drawing and how everyone appears to really enjoy the experience (and the booze.. editor's note). So, I started thinking about the purpose of Rotary and how our Rotary Club achieves those goals.
Rotary is a service club and our main goal is to give back to our community. However, that doesn't mean that we cannot have fun while serving our community. I hope that everyone enjoys coming to Rotary meetings and events and that we can keep some levity while still getting the business at hand completed. This is one of my goals for the year. If you have any insight on how to make our Club more lively, meetings more enjoyable or any comments at all, please call me or catch me at a meeting.
On a side note, I'm beginning to think that placing my cell phone number on the web site wasn't the greatest idea in the world. It really doesn't have anything to do with our Club even. In the last two weeks, I have gotten at least 7 phone calls from "concerned" citizens about the status of our Rotary Flag Program and why their flag hasn't been set out, etc. It seems that most area citizens believe there is only one Rotary Club in Temlpe. Luckily, I happen to know the phone number to Brockway & Gersbach's office and I point them in the correct direction (to Mike, not Leland).
Mark Fihn, Secretary of the Temple South Club forwarded me the following list of makeup opportunities that he will be updating for all the area clubs. We really appreciate Mark's efforts on this. We will forward this out at the beginning of each month and will also try to place it on the website.

Last Weeks Program by Tommy Valle
Bryce Monsen -- Temple Wildcat Football
Coach Bryce Monsen, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach of the Temple Wildcats brought his Offensive (Coach Taylor) and Defensive (Coach Gunn) Coordinators to discuss the upcoming football season. The Coordinators each gave a rundown of the starters and key players on their respective sides of the field. They also discussed the district, Georgetown's strengths and their general schemes on offense and defense.
Coach Gunn had the following gem in his discussion:
"He's a little over 200, maybe over 300, ok, close to 400. He's about 6'-3" and 350 pounds. He's a big boy." -- referring to an offensive lineman.
He also stated that being an "over-achiever" is the biggest compliment you can give a player, regardless of his athletic ability.
Coach Monsen finished the presentation with a heart-felt "Thank You" to the citizens of Temple for supporting the Wildcats.
