The Presidential Prerogative
This week Neil Haney will visit with the club on, "Charitable Giving: Sustaining Good Works in Good Times and Bad."
Last Saturday the Rotary Club of Temple hosted the second annual "Bloomin' Temple" Bike Tour in conjunction with the "Bloomin' Temple Festival. We had planned on having over 200 riders, but because of the torrential rain, we had only 57. The proverbial silver lining to this cloud is that we actually got paid for 103 riders! The riders that participated had a wonderful time and some had traveled from places like Fort Stockton and Lubbock (yes, I know... for a bike ride.)

We had a great group of volunteers work the event and a special thanks goes to Susan Connolly for making the event a success, despite the rain. I have learned that cyclists are already looking forward to next year's ride and this has the potential of becoming a premier cycling event.
The festival itself was wonderful and the Chamber of Commerce should be thanked along with all volunteers. We are quite lucky to have such a festival in Temple.
New Member Proposal
Katharine Johanns has proposed Casey Litton for membership. Casey is the director of the Temple Meridian and is a former Rotarian. Her classification would be "Healthcare-Management." This is the first reading.
Last Week's Meeting
Rotarian of the Day, Doug Streater introduced Wendall Williams, director of the Bio Science District. Mr. WIlliams spoke about the district and made everyone aware of the election taking place on May 8 to make the district a taxing authority. Several members of the club commented that this would be a great thing for the community.
