The Presidential Prerogative

This week's meeting will feature our current Rotary Club of Temple Student Scholarship winners, who will share with us how our club has enabled them to go to college.  Doc Macey will present the program and give a brief history of the Scholarship Foundation.

On Sunday evening, the club welcomes the Brazillian Group Study Exchange (GSE) to Temple.  They will be spending the week with us and will present the program on their country.  On Thursday evening, things will rock like we are in Rio with a wonderful party at the Graham's home.

As your president, I have been studying up on everything I can learn about Brazilian culture.  Most of my research has been done by watching Samantha Brown and Anthony Bourdain on the Travel Channel and at CiCi's Package Store as I labor on trying to make the perfect Caphirinia.  I want our guests to feel as comfortable as possible and as always I do try to be a servant leader.

New Member Proposal

Katharine Johanns has proposed Casey Litton for membership.  Casey is the director of the Temple Meridian and is a former Rotarian.  Her classification would be "Healthcare-Management."  This is the second reading.

David Yeilding has proposed Denise Meissner for membership.  Some of you might remember Denise from working at the bike ride.  She works for McLane Company as a Senior Database Administration.  Her classification is "Information Systems."  This is the first reading.

Susan Connolly has proposed Rosa Hernandez, the regional director for Standards Home Health.  She is active in several community activities and her classification is "Home Healthcare."  This is the first reading.

Last Week's Meeting

Larry Johnson, the "Magical Grandpa" mystified the club with his knowledge of magic and the dark arts (not really, it just sounded spooky.)  Mack Purifoy was scheduled to be the Rotarian of the Day, but mysteriously disappeared.  Special thanks to Barbara Bozon for being a great "assistant."

Items of Interest

The Rotary Club of Temple encourages its members to donate to the RI Foundation above and beyond the regular $25 quarterly contribution.  The club will match your contribution between April 15 and May 15 on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $300.  Give your check either to Danny or David.

The Brazilian Group Study Exchange Team is arriving on Sunday, May 10th.   They will be presenting the Noon program on Thursday, May 14th.   We expect a very good program as four of them are English Teachers in Brazil so there shouldn't be a communication problem.    Jennifer and Jonathan Graham are hosting a dinner party by the pool for the group.   Everyone is invited.   It will be on Thursday, May 14.   Cocktails at 6:00 p.m.; Dinner at 7:00 p.m.    A paper will be circulated at Rotary this week and next to determine attendees so that we can plan appropriately for food.   Get involved . . . have an international experience without having to leave the country!
