The Presidential Prerogative
CARNIVAL!
Ladies and gentleman, the Brazilians have landed! Actually, the Brazilian GSE team drove in from Bastrop over the weekend and they are jetsetting all over central Texas checking out everything from TISD to the Bell County Museum. I had the opportunity to drive them to Waco on Monday morning and they are great fun. They spoke at the Waco club, then headed to Baylor for a look around campus. I suggested they check out the Bear Pit and I think it concerned them a bit. It is my hope that members of the Waco club chose not to take them to the Dr Pepper Museum not only because I am a former employee of the museum and question some of the historical signifigance (by the way, that is also a swell way to become no longer employed at "said" mueum"), but because Monday was the anniversary of over half the building being destroyed by the infamous Waco tornado. I wouldn't want our friends to the north to hit our guests with too much gloom and doom so soon.
Our guests will be sharing about their country at Thursday's meeting and I would love to have a big crowd. Please don't forget Thursday evening with the GSE team at the Graham's... should be a wonderful time!
New Member Proposal
David Yeilding has proposed Denise Meissner for membership. Some of you might remember Denise from working at the bike ride. She works for McLane Company as a Senior Database Administration. Her classification is "Information Systems." This is the second reading.
Susan Connolly has proposed Rosa Hernandez, the regional director for Standards Home Health. She is active in several community activities and her classification is "Home Healthcare." This is the second reading.
We will also be inducting our newest member, Casey Litton into the club.
Last Week's Meeting
We were visited by former and current Temple Rotary scholarship recipients. Our scholarships have meant a great deal to all of them and have afforded them the ability to attend Temple College. It was good to hear some of their stories and plans for the future. Thanks to Dr. Macey for arranging for this great group to speak to the club!
Items of Interest
The Rotary Club of Temple encourages its members to donate to the RI Foundation above and beyond the regular $25 quarterly contribution. The club will match your contribution between April 15 and May 15 on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $300. Give your check either to Danny or David.
The Brazilian Team is here and we are looking forward to hearing their presentation on Thursday at noon. We are also looking forward to an opportunities to visit with them in a social setting at the dinner being hosted by the Grahams on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m.
